Post and Courier: Charleston's new council members receive warm welcome as crowds pack the historic City Hall

“Councilwoman Leslie Skardon the lone woman among the otherwise all-male board held Lawson one of her 3-year-old twin boys in her lap at her wooden council desk before she was sworn in to represent District 12 that covers most of James Island.

“When I think of City Council it isn't just service to neighbors but it is also ensuring a future where our twin boys can come back to visit us in 30 years or also raise their own families here” she said.

While she gave remarks from the dais at the center of the wood-paneled chamber, Lewis, her second twin, crawled up into her seat to better watch his mom at work. She committed to finding solutions and creative ways to address the city’s most pervasive issues like flooding, traffic and affordable housing.”
