““I think five of us have young children,” says new Councilwoman Leslie Skardon. “Having that perspective as young families, there’s a sense of urgency — that we don’t have that same sense of upward mobility.”
She’s absolutely correct, and that’s the point: A new generation of city government means change. A younger crowd is bound to have different ideas because of life experiences. That means new interpretations of what’s even wrong.
Skardon says this generation is most focused on issues that affect them and their peers: the ability to afford a home, whether sidewalks and playgrounds are safe, whether there are good places to walk.”
